Beers + Lack of H20 = Migracious

· Uncategorized

What does 4 16 oz. glasses of Molson Canadian + the lack of proper amounts of H20 give you? M I G R A C I O U S ! ! ! What is migracious, you ask? It’s a frickin’ migraine headache. The good news: It’s not a completely debilitating one! It is the kind you can take two Excedrin’s and drink a cup of coffee to cure! Phew!

Pepe and Sarah
They’re here! It was a good time last night. I think Pepe and Sarah were a little tired. We had to swing by Costco to grab 3 cases of water. Michelle called shortly before I left for the airport to tell me that Shelby Township had a boil water advisory! Not again! Damn it! So we went to Costco to get water. I was almost “shifted” (I’ll explain later) when I found Costco was out of the 35 pack of 16.9 bottles of Ice Mountain water we normally get. However, I peeked into the back room, and low and behold, they had a pallet of half-eaten cases! Yippee! No shift! We got home and started sucking down beers and watched the MTV Video Music Awards! It was a damn good show. I got to see my current favorite artist, 50 Cent perform P.I.M.P. with one of my other favorites, Snoop Dogg! It was a fun performance. The stage was filled with these cats dressed up in pimp outfits! It was awesome! We missed the beginning of the show, which we’ll have to catch later, which had Britney Spears and Christina Aguillera performing “Like a Virgin” as a tribute to Madonna. Later, Madonna locked lips with the two young divas! I’ll have to make sure to catch that part of the show!

Working later than normal

· Uncategorized

Sometimes it’s kind of fun to work past 5pm. Today, I’m going to stay here until about 7PM, then head over to the airport to pick up Pepe! I get to listen to 50 Cent, out loud, laugh louder, etc.

AximSite.com
I’ve been kind of obsessed the last two days with how much more populare AximSite.com is than AximUsers.com. What can you do? You can only do as much as you put into it, right? I need to push harder to get my site out there. I was doing it much more during the winter months and spring months, but the summer has pretty much taken me over. With lifting, running, school, and work…I’ve had little energy to push the site out to the masses. Well, that has to change! I am looking at new ways to get the site more traffic and more revenue! For example, it looks like PocketPC Magazine and AximSite.com have a pretty heavy partnership. The Dell Axim forum category, although small, seems to be a big deal. As soon as people go there, the AximSite logo is right there, in front of them. I need to work out something with PocketPCThoughts, perhaps, but I think AximSite beat me to having a relationship with them already. I’ll think of something!

Fun weekend ahead of us!

· Uncategorized

Pepe and Sarah are coming back into town this evening. Their plane comes in at 7:44PM. Should be a fun weekend. We’ll probably just hang out and watch the MTV Video Music Awards. They start at 8PM. I’m kind of sad we’ll miss the beginning, but they re-air it at 11:30PM. This way, we can see the big opening act which has Britney Spears marrying Madonna, with a slew (possibly) of other big-named peeps involved! Tomorrow, I’m going to come into work about 3 hours, to get my hours up to something respectable. Gurnip was going to have a vacation day, but it was made pretty clear that they need her tomorrow. She might also have to come in on Sunday a little bit. I would, if I had to. Kind of sucks, since we have guests in town, but I’m a good entertainer, on my own!

I had my Yahoo! draft last night. It was super exciting! Mariner and Kinski came over for dinner, and the draft. They showed us pictures of their Alaskan honeymoon (will be online tonight), and pictures of their condo in Boston. Looks super exciting! I hope that Michelle and I can, one day, have an adventure, outside of The D. The draft, back to it, was awesome. The picks were only 90 seconds each, or less. It made the draft go extremely fast! We loved it. It was so fast, you didn’t even have a chance to blink or plan out who you want to draft in terms of bye weeks. I also set it to 3 reserves, to make the league a bit more exciting in terms of transactions. I say the word EXCITING quit a bit.

5 mile run:
Contemplating skipping the 5 mile run this week. But we may do it on Saturday morning, before Jesse’s wedding reception. Not sure I really “need” to do the 5 miles, but if it helps, it helps. Right?

Quiet Water Cooling?

· Uncategorized

New Scientist

A friend of mine, JT$, sent me this link. So our computers are going to be so fast and so hot that we’ll have to have QUIET water cooling!! I can’t wait. I hope they do this for ALL processors! No moving parts! QUIET, QUIET, QUIET!

Humid...naaaaah!

· Uncategorized

Could it have been any MORE humid this morning? Holy shit! I thought it would be a nice, cool run. Hell no. It was like running through a swamp. What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger, I guess. I ran my 9 miles this morning because the Senator and Kinski are coming over to visit tonight. They are moving to Boston next month, and we haven’t see them since they got married last month. There are a number of reasons they are coming, actually. 1) They are moving soon, 2) They are bringing over their memory card with Alaska (honeymoon) pictures, 3) Dave and I are drafting in my Yahoo! Fantasy Football League, and 4) We’re having Salmon and Fixin’s (Dave and Kinski are providing those)…oh, and Dave and I will probably suck down a few brews! After the 9 miles is out of the way, I can indulge in a few beers. Oh, but I indulged in a few last night, while drafting in the Brett Reed FFL. I did alright.

New weight record!
I weighed 179.2 pounds this morning! My new record! Let’s see if I can keep under 180 pounds… not sure it’s going to happen, but I’d be pretty certain that over the next four weeks, with the mileage becoming obscene, it should be an easy task!

Got up late...

· Uncategorized

I hate that I got up at 7:09 this morning. All I was able to do was run my four miles and head to work, 45 mins. late! Some days just aren’t better than others.

On a side note, I had my 2nd FFL draft yesterday with David and Carlos! It went fairly well. I got 1. Shaun Alexander, 2. Tiki Barber, 3. Joe Horn, 4. Aaron Brooks, 5. Peerless Price, 6. Bubba Franks, 7. Drew Bledsoe, 8. Lav. Coles, 9. Martin Gramatica, 10. Kevan Barlow, 11. Patrick Ramsey, 12. Onterrio Smith, 13. Chris Chambers, 14. Packers. All in all, I’m pretty happy with my draft. I have three more drafts for a total of five!! One tonight, one tomorrow night, and one next Wednesday night!

Mackinac Island -- "Beauty Weekend"

· Uncategorized

Photos

Michelle and I have this tender way of adding the prefix of Beauty to things we like to do. Call it gay, but I think it’s tender, and it fertilizes our love and happiness. Okay, enough of that. I’m drafting for a Fantasy Football League tonight and having beer and pizza…alright?

Anyway, we had an amazing weekend up at Mackinac Island! Michelle took the day off on Friday to help us get prepared for our 4 1/2 hour journey up north. I got into work really early, about 6:45 A.M. It was well worth it. It was practically empty in here, except for a few NOC folks and my buddy, Gord. At 7:00 A.M., we went to the cafeteria for my 2nd coffee of the day. My first one was a Venti White Chocolate Mocha from Starbucks at 16 and John R. It’s nice when you don’t go to the gym and you leave from home really early! Anyway…work was “slow”, so to speak, being that there was nobody there to interrupt my work on some logical forms! I scooted out of work at about 10:45 A.M. I stopped at REI to get us some “Goo” for the next few weeks’ long runs! We have 18, 14, 20, and 12 scheduled the next four weeks. The mid-week runs are never long enough to require “goo”. So, after this little pit-stop, I got home, and we quickly packed “Victor” the Vector up and headed out!

We had a very uneventful drive up. We hit a little bit of traffic near Flint and then a little bit near West Branch (construction). Victor drove most beautifully. Sixth gear was a dream…the car was getting anywhere from 28 to 30.3 miles per gallon. Also, the 16 gallon tank made the trip even better We didn’t have to refuel until we were on our way home, and that was about 100 miles south of Mackinac City!

On the way up, Pepe called us and told us that his mom and dad had the Vette up in Mackinac City for a weekend Big Mac bridge crossing they were doing on either Friday or Saturday night, as part of the 50th Anniversary of the Corvette. We were hoping we’d run into them while we bs’d around Mackinac City…no such luck! It was worth a try though. I wanted to show Dr. Pappas our newest member of the family, Victor!

We did the usual stroll into the Traverse Bay Woollen Co. and the little “mall” they have with all those silly little shops. We probably spent about 1.5 hours in Mackinac City, at the most. Just enough to wet our appetites, but we were really excited about getting on the ferry and hitting the island!

So, we got our luggage and supplies together, paid the $15.50 each for the ferry ticket…a whopping $1.00 off per ticket. Thanks Bay View Bed and Breakfast for the awesome discount! Hee hee. We loaded up a paper bag with some water and Red Bulls, and just as we were making our way to the loading area, the bag ripped, and our waters and Red Bulls (Diet) went all over the place! It was funny, actually, and kind of dumb on our part! We shoved the liquids into our luggage, and were on our way. We sat inside of the ferry boat for the most part, but as we got closer, I decided it’d be a good idea to go to the front of the vessel (outside) and take pictures of our approach to the island and of The Grand Hotel! It was awesome! The boat goes along at a very nice clip, actually, and I managed to get a few good pictures! You know, it seemed odd, as the last time I was on a ferry boat, I was approaching the island of Keffalonia, in Greece. And coming up to Mackinac Island reminded me a lot of approaching those Ionian Sea islands on the West of Greece.

We were SO excited when we finally the island! We grabbed our bags and headed onto Main St. We turned left, as we figured out from the map that Bay View B&B was to the left. It had been 18 years since I’ve been to Mackinac Island, and it was 100% brand new to me! The weather was beautiful! We quickly made it to Bay View and checked it. The building was beautiful! Cheryl helped us check in after about :30 of confusion on what room we’d have, and we were up to the 3rd floor before we could blink our eye. Cheryl did give us the low-down on breakfast each morning, as well as the tea, coffee, and desserts later in the day!

When we got up to our room, we were blown away. It was such a nice room, overlooking the street to the East. It was as tender as it gets. It had a “full” bed, and a smaller bed, where we put our stuff. We didn’t stay in the room long. We regrouped, and headed out, to explore the island, for as long as we had energy to do so!

We headed back towards the center of town, on Main St., taking in all the other inns, hotels, and B&Bs on our way. We slowly walked past the front of Fort Michilimackinac, which was like a park, paid attention to how many people were there, resting, reading, sitting, laughing, enjoying themselves and the day! We walked into the “thick” of things “downtown”, and slowly made our way to the end of the strip, and started heading north on the island, along the boardwalk and looking at the beautiful private houses! We took some pictures of the beautiful houses, the library, and some other “keepers”. We walked through the park that is attached to the school and headed up the street. To our surprise, we came to the bottom of the Grand Hotel! Impressive it was!!! We quickly saw the sign that said after 6 P.M., proper attire was required. We knew that we wouldn’t be able to get into the hotel this day, but we looked in awe, and took it all in! We spotted a fun red phone booth, like the kind you see in the U. K. We took a few fun pictures, and headed down the road. The Stone Church caught our eye..took a picture or two of that! All this time, mind you, we’re also taking in the horse-drawn carriages, and people on horseback. It’s quite a site to see NO motor vehicles on this island! Even the street-sweepers are machines that are drawn by horses, and there are also the random shit scooper people that walk around with wheel barrows and other buggies, scooping up horse shit with shovels. That is a job I’d NEVER want to have! I’m glad I went to college!

By this time, we were pretty hungry and pretty thirsty! We decided that having a beer or three would be okay, as long as we drank water. We didn’t want our Saturday morning run to be influenced (negatively) by dehydration from alcohol! We ran into a fun bar/restaurant called the French Outpost! There was a wedding in progress on the patio when we got there, actually, a reception. The whole island was weddings all weekend, actually. We sat at the bar and had some drinks. I had some Bell’s Oberon, while Michelle sucked down some Pina Coladas, and froze herself, like usual! She’s so cute! We decided that we’d eat in the restaurant and headed in. I had a wild mushroom salad w/ chicken and Michelle had a Michigan Cherry Cobb salad. I also had another beer. Michelle stuck with water! She was too cold! Dinner and drinks were perfect!

After dinner, we headed towards town, but this time, we took Market St., which is one block up from Main St. Market St. is kind of cool, as it’s much quieter than Main St. It consists mainly of smaller boutiques, art galleries, a medical center, post office, smaller hotels, and a horse stable, for renting your own horse! We found some people on Market St. who asked me to take their picture! They returned the favor, which made me happy, since we aren’t in too many of our own pictures! The people were from Shelby Township…a small world, ain’t it?

Anyway, we enjoyed Market St., and headed down to Main St. We really wanted to eat some ice cream of some sort to top off the night, before we headed in to “rest” for our 12 mile Saturday morning run! We went to the Waffle House where we saw all sorts of options. I chose to get Mackinac Island Fudge flavor, stuffed between two warm waffles. Michelle chose to get a cup of ice cream. She didn’t think my option looked very appealing. I begged to differ! After this scrumptious treat, we headed back to our room, where I quickly crashed. Michelle stayed up until about 10:45 P.M., reading and watching TV. I got plenty of rest.

Saturday morning, we got out of bed at 8:00 A.M. and headed down for breakfast! We had coffee and a few muffins, orange and cranberry flavored. We also ate these throughout the day, whenever we stopped into the Bay View B&B! They had a fruit dish for an appetizer, then we had some sort of quiche looking thing but it was mainly potatoes with cheese on top. Very good! We also had this very nice and warm cinammon stick thing! TASTY! After breakfast, we sat on the porch for nearly an hour, talking to John, one of the staff members, possibly the manager of the Bay View. He told us all about running around the island, the Jamaicans who work at all the inns and hotels, and also about the local people, the local government, and the rules about motor vehicles on the island. They don’t even allow Segways on the island! Jeez!

At about 10:00 A.M., we headed upstairs to pack up our water, goo, money, etc. for our run. We strapped on our running shoes, lathered up with Body Glide (to prevent chaffage), and hydrated before our run. We got out onto Main St. and started our run, westward, at about 10:15 A.M. We had to maneuver through foot and horse traffic for the first 1/4 mile or so though town, but after that, it was smooth sailing, all the way around the island, for 8 miles. We saw many private homes along the way. All I can say is Daaaaaammmmnnnnnnn! Some really nice houses. It’s gotta be so damn quiet to live there or vacation there, but freight/transit is a bitch. Everything has to go through the local transit company who uses nothing but horses! The weather during the run couldn’t have been better. It probably started off about 65 degrees, with little humidity. This was probably our best and most consistent run yet, in terms of pace. We only stopped to run at about the 7 mile mark for 1 minute and then one more time at around the 10 mile mark! Michelle was a bit stiff, and I felt great. It may have been the first run in my life of this distance that I could have possibly NOT stopped. Although stopping helps the joints stretch and recover a bit! All in all, I think this was our best run, ever! I want to thank my wife, Michelle, for getting me into this lifestyle! THANK YOU, MICHELLE!

After the run, we had planned on grabbing a beer, before we even got back to our room to change, but we decided against it. Instead, we grabbed some water and juice, looked around the nearby dock, coffee house, and Mackinac Island Outfitter store. After this little break, we got to our room, showered, got dressed, and headed out for the Butterfly House! I’ll tell ya, I thought it was going to be gay, but it was pretty damn cool! I’ve never seen so many butterflies and so many different kinds of butterflies!!! It was actually quite amazing. The place had an aquarium sort of setup with butterflies in the pupa stage, which is just before they “hatch” into butterflies. The curator there was telling us how they get them from commercial butterfly farms. Have you ever heard of such a thing? I haven’t. Anyway, the butterfly house was awesome. Nice and warm, with butterflies of all kinds flying all over the place. It was amazing to see how they had two sides to their wings. On many of them one side was like camouflage and the other side was bright and brilliant! We stayed in the house for about 20 minutes!

After the Butterfly House, we walked around some more down Main St. and then headed up towards The Grand Hotel. On our way to Market St., we stopped into this Bark Missionary thingamabob right near the bottom of the fort! Afterwards, we stopped into some of the galleries and small shops on Market St. Some of the art galleries were awesome, especially Ivey Blitz’s fine art photo gallery! I love photos more than paintings for some reason.

After our stroll down Market St., we decided that it would be a good idea to stop at our favorite bar, The French Outpost, and have another drink. Michelle got another Pina Colada, and I got another Oberon…make that two drinks each!

After our drinks, served by the same bartender, we headed up to The Grand Hotel and paid our $10 fee to get in and walk around. Before we got in, we saw a bride and groom, whispering “sweet nothings” into their ears. It was super tender! We were BLOWN AWAY when we got into the hotel! It was huge! It had a salon, a jeweler, and all sorts of shops and stores on the first floor. The 2nd floor had a very nice lobby, where a wedding reception was forming, and there was also an afternoon tea/dessert party going on. We walked out onto the porch, which is the longest wooden porch in the world. On one half of it was a wedding reception for the couple we saw earlier. It looked like an awesome place to have a wedding, and the weather couldn’t have been better. On the grounds below, it looked like dinner was being set up, as there were cooks and staff all over the place getting things prepared! We were quickly asked by some wait staff if we wanted a drink, we said no. After the porch visit, we went up to the 6th floor, where we stopped into this strange bar. Cool looking, nice view of the pool, below, but it wasn’t for us. It didn’t grab our attention. I think we have ADD!

After our visit to the hotel, we walked up the hill and took the “back roads” back towards town. We walked by the Governor’s Mansion (or house – I forgot). By this time, it was time for us to do our “Sunset Special” for our bike rental. It was about $50/day to rent a bike, or $16 if you rented after 6 P.M. and brought it back before 9 A.M. We got “cruiser” style bikes and headed east! How comfortable… these bikes were WAY more comfortable than our mountain bikes at home! Our main goal was to see the Cemetery that was in the middle of the island, somewhere! We had SO MUCH FUN riding these bikes! It was a nice relief from walking and running, actually, although our legs were a bit tired and sore! We got halfway around the island when we found our road to the cemetery and Skull Cave. We had to turn in (left) on British Landing Road! We had an uphill ride all the way to the cemetery, it seemed, but when we got there, we got off the bikes and had a nice stroll through two of the 3 parts of the cemetery! There were some pretty old tombstones in there, some over 150 years old! One of the parts of the cemetery was one with soldiers that died on the island, most of them unknown! After the cemetery visit, we stopped in front of Skull Cave to take a picture, then we headed to town for dinner. On the way, we drove by the Governor’s Mansion again, and then went behind the Fort, which was quite cool, actually. In the end, we decided on the Pilot House for beer, nachos, and bbq chicken pizza. We also got to watch a good portion of the Lions vs. Browns (preseason). It was quite cool. After our drinks there, we went to Horn’s Bar, the local Irish Pub, where we enjoyed another Oberon each, watched more of the Lions, and watched an obnoxious bride-to-be in her bachelorette party! At this point, we were tired, and headed home. It was kind of nice to ride your bike to eat and go to bars! Kind of simple. We thought we’d want ice cream, but we were bushwhacked!

We pretty much dropped off the bikes at the bike shop (next door to our place). We had a chance to hear the tail-end of these two guitarists that were playing in the veranda (where they have breakfast). There were about 10 spectators watching with beer and wine. It looked relaxing, actually. After that, we headed up to our room, where we brushed our teeph, washed our faces, and crashed! I think we read for about 45 minutes before sleeping…it was VERY relaxing! I actually started reading Kevin Mitnick’s book, The Art of Deception. It’s starting to be an awesome book!

Sunday morning, we got up early again, around 7:45 A.M., and headed down for breakfast. They had some sort of french toast with some sort of peach marmalade glaze, fairly large sausages, and pieces of fruit! After eating, we decided it was time to go. We headed to the room, packed up real quick, and headed out. At check-out, we talked to John about our run. He told us a story about a cool run he did in New Zealand, when he was there helping run a B&B. This guy seems to lead a pretty cool retirement! Glad we met him!

Our drive home was slightly traffic-filled. Last big weekend before the holiday (Labor Day), lots of people up north, add in the construction, and you get some shitty spots. But it was alright. A few heroes on the way, but no incidents! We pretty much got into town in 4 1/2 hours. Stopped at Great Lakes Crossing to get a few things for Afeena, plus I got a pair of pants for work, since many of pants are 36 inch waist, and are pretty big on me now. I grabbed 34 inch, which fit nicely (wearing them now!). After the mall, we ran to Nino Salvaggio’s to do some grocery shopping, then we headed home, where we unpacked, started laundry, packed for the next day at work and the gym, and worked on websites and watched TV. It was a VERY relaxing evening at home!

All in all, Beauty Weekend was a complete success!!!

Mackinac Day is Here!!

· Uncategorized

Finally! The weekend away w/ Michelle is finally here! I crawled out of bed real early this morning, grabbed my White Chocolate Mocha at Starbucks, and got into work at 6:45 A.M. Man, the commute this early is fantastic. Took about :45 minutes to get here, tops. If I could only convert to an afternoon gym schedule. Who knows, I may try it again.

I can’t wait. I burned a bunch of CDs last night for the ride up. Not sure Michelle’s going to want to listen to rap the whole way, but the Saab needed to have these discs inside of itself. NAS, Ludacris, 50 Cent, Nelly, Snoop, Eminem, 8 Mile Soundtrack. :D

What a beautiful couple!

· Uncategorized

My mom and dad celebrated their 37th wedding anniversary on August 21. What a model of a beautiful marriage, and a beautiful couple. My mom and dad are complements for each other. We went over there tonight to celebrate their anniversary in our own, “quiet” family style. We just hung out, talked, and enjoyed an awesome slideshow that Dino burned onto VideoCD with the help of a program he found on the internet! Thanks, Dino!

We brought them an authorization paper for them to get their first new car since 1997. They are getting a Chevy Impala LS. I think they are really going to like this car. It’s bascially loaded except for leather, from the gist of things! Good for them! They deserve a new car. Hell, they deserve two new cars!

Gina was preparing for tomorrow’s class. I think she’s a bit nervous, still, since it doesn’t seem like she has a whole lot of guidance when it comes to lesson plans and what she has to teach these kids. She doesn’t want to be unprepared and have the already wild kids running loose and leaving her class. Good for you, Gina! Just get some rest!!!

Meeting with Kendall and Michelle

· Uncategorized

I finally got to meet up with Kendall, from Excell Data. She is the recruiter that got me the position at Ford! It was a pleasure to meet her. Michelle, from Compucom, brought her to my “lair”. :) We had a nice 30 minute breakfast meeting, met, bs’d, and then came to my dungeon. They also had a chance to meet David, my supervisor.

Speaking of David, I meet with him this afternoon to start getting my material together for my presentation I have at the end of next month as part of my Ford hiring process. I’m so excited, nervous, and anxious at the same time. I don’t know HOW to feel! I am going to be myself, and put my best foot forward!

Best run of my life last night!
Yesterday, it was extremely hot and muggy, over 90 degrees Fahrenheit and near 100% humidity. The heat index was at or near 100. Michelle and I decided that we’d do our 8 mile run at World Gym in Rochester. I wasn’t too thrilled about running that long on the mill, but it was more pleasant sounding that doing it outdoors. Michelle had her Sculpt and Define class first, then she’d do her run. When I got there, she had already been running for about 45 minutes. Her leg hurt, it might be developing another cyst. I sure hope not, as that really brings my baby’s spirits down. Irregardless, we’ll have it taken care of! Anyway, I did my first mile in 10 minutes, but did the remaining 7 miles at 8 minutes/mile. I took a 1 minute walk break at 4 miles. I did the last 4 with no stops. It was my best 8 mile run, ever! 1:06:56!!!!

Two more days!

· Uncategorized

In two days, Michelle and I are going to Mackinac Island for the weekend. I’m so excited!! We’re staying at a bed and breakfast called Bay View. I will be working a half-day on Friday… can’t wait!

Gods and Generals:
We finished watching Gods and Generals last night. Man, what a long movie. Wasn’t that awesome if you ask me. Maybe they just needed a more modern Civil War movie? Seemed like it. I love Robert Duvall, but I feel that he’s done much better in other films. 6.5/10 for me.

Run with Demo

· Uncategorized

Today’s 4 mile run was a special treat. Even though we got off to a late start, Demo and I ran four miles near the gym. I forgot my watch, but Dave, the trainer, happened to have his handy-dandy Times GPS watch with him. I brought the HRM strap and the GPS antenna. I just needed his watch! I was glad, too, because I really need to try and run outdoors as much as possible, as the marathon date nears!

We took my usual path, but this time, I cut out the apartment complex I run through to extend the time we’d be in the Catholic cemetary. It was beautiful! While inside the cemetary gates, we stumbled upon a mother deer and 2 or 3 of her children! It was so serene and peaceful. I wish Gurnip could have seen it! I’ll enjoy it for her! But it’s hard!

Demo is definitely CAPABLE of running a marathon, he just has to put in the time! I’d even bet that he could run fairly fast with a little bit of running discipline!

Thanks for running with me, Demo. It’s always better to have a running partner!

Canon S400:
I got my Canon S400 yesterday, finally, after the power outage delay. I am so happy I did it. I sold my S45 to Scott’s work for 3 hunit, and this one only cost 419 after the 10% off coupon at Dell. This is so much smaller and friendlier! I think Michelle really likes it, but she didn’t get a chance to play with it last night, since Demo and China (Kina) came over. Demo got a camera and memory, too, so he came by to pick it up and to check out our sprinklers. Surprisingly, they seemed fine while he was there. :( I wish they were bad. :)

Cabinet guy:
The microwave oven project is nearing fruition. We had another carpenter come out yesterday. He’s under the impression that it would be very easy to go to Imperial Cabinets, which is on 23 Mile Road (he says), and get them to sell us a new, smaller cabinet. I’m excited to move on with these projects, even though I’m not doing all of them. Sometimes it’s just nice to get shit done!

Family Barbeque Rocked!

· Uncategorized

The barbeque we almost DIDN’T have on Saturday night was a major success! Fighting through boil water restrictions, closed restaurants in Macomb County due to an ordinance, extremely hot and muggy weather, and flash rain storms, our little Dutkiewicz/Filias barbeque was spectacular! Michelle and I started the day at 8:30AM. I had gone to bed at 4:30AM because I upgraded Axim Users Dot Com and ran into some problems. Thanks to Kevin of YAUWS.COM for helping me fix it!

Anway, we left the house at about 9:00AM to start our day. All we wanted was a Starbucks coffee, but we realized that because of poor water quality, they closed their doors. And they closed their doors before the boil water restriction was formally put into place! Good for you, Starbucks!

We went grocery shopping at Meijer and Nino Salvaggio to prepare for our big party…oh, I mean, barbeque! We got dry goods at Meijer, and fruits, vegetables, hummus, taboule, and shish kabobs (beef and chicken) at Nino’s. We also went to Costco in the morning to get a nice, long table and six folding chairs. Great investment. We’ll probably end up getting another one of those tables and 4-6 more chairs. This way, we can easily entertain a dozen or so people during the winter months, in the basement, which is like a barren wasteland at the moment!

When we got home from shopping, I trimmed the lawn, mowed it (bagged, too), pruned the front tree, and hedged the bushes in front of our house. I wanted it to look nice and pretty! I also noticed more hornet nests…those little devils. I doused them with the hose, and I also sprayed them with our Wasp and Hornet Killer… there are more, but I’ll have to get them later. By the time I was done with the yardwork, Michelle was done setting up the “buffet”. She made rice, set up the pita bread with hummus and taboule, made fruit kabobs with the fruit dip we LOVE to eat, and made a corn/black bean salsa for regular and blue corn tortilla chips! We bought plenty of Labatt’s Blue Light, Bud Light, Coke, Diet Coke, and water! We also had paper plates, and more 16oz. Solo cups than a small fair would need, thanks to Costco!

As we were enjoying our Smirnoff Green Apple drinks, Kim and Matt showed up, then Michelle’s parents, then David and Christine, Aunt Marlene and Uncle Dick, and finally, my parents. We enjoyed the evening in the backyard, on the deck, drinking, eating, laughing, and playing LCR. My parents LOVED it! It was only the 2nd time I played it. I never get too excited while playing, but it was definitely fun, since I won a $45 pot! Michelle and her family love the game so much, they screamed up a storm. Good thing half of our neighbors weren’t home!

Gifts:
Thanks to everyone who bought us such nice gifts. We have more wine than an 8 Mile Road wino would drink! We have a nice, new vase, a gift certificate from Pier One Imports, some cash, and various other gift basket items! Also, my mom and dad bought us a washing machine when we first moved in! Thanks again everyone!

16 miles sucked!!!

· Uncategorized

Even though I ended up doing a 10:41 pace, the 16 mile run wasn’t very fun. The last four miles were grueling! The reason: ALCOHOL!!! Michelle wasn’t affected by it because she was hyrdating herself like a good little runner on Saturday. Me, I was hydrating myself with Smirnoff Twisted Green Apple and Labatt’s Blue Light! I felt great, though, the first 10-12 miles… I had no intentions of feeling fatigue, elevated heart rate, and stiffness in my muscles and joints…but I did, damnit! I most certainly did! Lesson: hydrate yourself, ALWAYS, when you have a long run ahead of you. Idiotic NOT to!

Power Outage of 2003

Holy shit!
I can’t believe this! Yesterday, at about 4:10PM, the Detroit area, as well as other areas from here to the East Coast. I was sitting at work, programming away, as we approached our Friday (today) cut-over for co-managing network operations. I am responsible for getting up the NetOps website, within Ford. Well, the cut-over, obviously, wasn’t going to happen on Friday (today). My computer, as well as the lights and all the computers around me, flickered, buzzed, hummed, and made all sorts of noises. No big deal, we thought, but after about 2-3 minutes, we started to get concerned. I heard my phone ringing, and was surprised, as I didn’t know the phones were still analog. The ring was different, as it wasn’t the fancy ring I have on it. It was Michelle. She was calling to tell me that she lost power at home, in Shelby Township! WOW! At work, I let everyone know that not only did Dearborn not have power, but Shelby Township, nearly 40 miles away, didn’t have power, either! Quickly, others started to get a hold of their family and friends, and it was soon discovered that power was out all the way to the East Coast! Some people still had their laptops and internet connections (batteries). They dashed to national news websites, but the only thing they had was a tiny headline about power black/brownouts. They said that details were coming soon. We waited, nothing. We only knew what we already knew, no power! After about an hour and a half, Yogi and I decided to head home, and fight the traffic. It took me about 1 hour and 45 minutes to make it home. It normally takes about an hour, or a little more. The only problem, I was near empty. I didn’t want to run out, as I knew I wouldn’t be able to fill-up. Yogi followed me all the way to 696, just in case he needed to take me home or to his house. Nice guy, that Yogesh guy! Thanks, Yogi!

Part 2
After I got home, the blackout continued! Michelle and I actually had a good time last night. We hung out at home, got the lantern (battery) out, lit some candles, and visited with Chris and Bahia. Bahia came here first, with Zoe, and then we went over there and played. We had some Labatt’s Blue, BS’d, and hung out. It’s always nice to have friends nearby. Chris was supposed to go to Las Vegas today, and we were concerned that there wouldn’t be power or flight activity so soon. His flight was to leave at 8:10AM. Anyway, we went home, and were still kind of bored and restless…

Let’s go to our brother’s house!
We knew that if we went to Dino’s house, we’d find something exciting there! Even though we were tired, we wanted to make the trip, in the darkness, to Dino’s. It was awesome! As soon as we got there, Dino was in the kitchen, pistol on his hip, one in the pipe! We ate some ramen noodles (Dino and I), and Michelle had some oatmeal! Josh got up, or out of his room, and he joined us. It was just a good time there, like the good ole’ days! The four of us, like it used to be when I lived there and Michelle would visit/live there with me! We laughed, joked, talked about getting our own gun(s), and looked at the moon and the sky with Dino’s telescope, since the city lights were off and the sky looked as if we were 200 miles north…nice and beautiful…and QUIET! We ended up being EXHAUSTED, and headed home!

Goodnight!
We got home and crashed, almost immediately! We didn’t set an alarm. We decided that we wouldn’t run the 8 miles earlier in the day. We pretty much knew that we wouldn’t be running the 8 miles this week. We’d prepare, physically, and mentally, for the 16 mile run on either Saturday or Sunday.

BBQ:
We have been planning a BBQ with the Dutkiewicz side of the family for a few weeks now. The power outage had us worried. We really wanted to “host” something over here at Casa de Filias. As of last night, we let Aunt Marlene know that we wouldn’t be having it, but earlier today, power came back on, and the BBQ is ON! Let’s get it ON! Also earlier in the day: We went to my parents’ house to visit and see how they were doing, especially my dad. We had to drive across 24 mile road as 23 mile road was all jacked up w/ construction. We saw a McDonald’s open, but balked. As we approached my parents’ house, we say that power was on from Hayes eastward. We were pretty certain that they’d have power…and they did! Just as we pulled up, their street got power back and their phones got fixed (phones had issues there for some reason). My dad made us a Greek village salad with a few pieces of French bread. After that, Michelle napped, while I looked at amazing pictures from their recent one month trip to Greece. They went for Peter’s wedding, and to visit. Dino and Danielle also went there for two weeks. The pictures were awesome! I want my mom to get them made into photo CD for me, as I’d like to have them (there are many family pictures in there that are priceless, especially my grandmother!) and put them online! I napped, as well. At about 3pm, we decided to head home. On our way home, we saw that power was on along the M59 corridor. We ran into Costco and bought a few things, about 300 bux worth of a few things! We got a nice folding table and six folding chairs for our Saturday BBQ! We also got a few other things, like the phone showerhead that Demo has and a cool laser level! I just have to figure out how to use the laser level well!

16 miles:
We have decided to run our 16 miles on Sunday, as Saturday is going to be a hot and humid scorcher, like it is here today! Sunday’s high temperature is only going to be 79 degrees. Let’s hope we don’t get too thrashed on Saturday, and even if we do, we’ll run on Sunday evening!

No work:
Oh yeah, almost forgot! We didn’t go to work today. We were told last night, via WWJ, that the authorities didn’t want people out and about if they could help it!
