AnandTech's recommended overclocker's system (power system)

· Uncategorized

More or less, this sytem is about all you’d need for the next year or so if you’re an avid upgrader/overclocker. It’s a pretty damn nice system if you ask me. Me, I’m pretty happy w/ my Shuttle setup…but I could be looking at doing some upgrades in the next year or so. My gaming has gone from rare to even MORE RARE! So, I’m not sure if my statement on upgrade options is accurate or not. Maybe I’m just crazy and like blogging!

A week from now…
I’ll be shredding down the mountain with my good friends, Sean and Dave. I can’t wait!

He he.

My friend, Kevin, sent me this today. Thought it was worth posting!

Updated the look!

So, I was going through this rollercoaster of figuring out which blog template I’d use. I found one at Neil’s corner that is very nice and very clean. I had a few complaints recently about switching to a two column blog. The readers had to scroll left to right to view the whole blog. I reverted back to “clean”, a style that Movable Type provides. Two complaints about it came rushing into my office. I quickly scoured the net and found the current theme.

I hope everyone likes it.

Love, Peter

SBC Yahoo! DSL Technician Story

· Uncategorized

Okay, so last night, I’m at one of my clients getting them set up with static IP addresses on their DSL account. Dynamic address configuration worked just fine, but they needed to have a static IP address on their server, as their software vendor periodically connects to the server to make sure their software is properly patched, etc. So, going forward, I went there last night to get this going. I ran into problems getting the DSL to connect to to “the net”. Here is a snippet of what I went through on the phone last night:

After telling the first technician that I couldn’t ping either of their DNS servers, by IP address, from a command line, he asked: “Did you delete your cookies and your Temporary Internet Files?” I told him that command line troubleshooting had nothing to do with the browser and that I was offended and needed to be transferred to someone who could actually answer my questions. “Transferring you to a level 2 technician, sorry for the inconvenience.”

Okay, so this “level 2” technician gets on the phone, and the first thing he asked me sent me into a frenzy. He asked: “Which model router did SBC Yahoo! send you?” I asked him if he had that information in front of him from the transferring technician. He said he did. So I asked him why he bothered asking me and he apologized. I told him that I felt no confidence that he was going to be able to help me with my connectivity problems. He said, “Piece of cake!” BEH! This guy sucked, too. We walked around in circles for about 45 minutes. Nothing good came out of it. We even called the person who emailed my client their IP address information and left him a message. My “level 2” technician even asked me a few scripted questions about browsers, which I quickly called him out on. He apologized. Again, I told this guy I was offended and that we should be beyond the scripted questions that he learned in training at this point. No luck. He offered a technician to make a visit. I passed. I don’t think that would help. Maybe I’m wrong. I hope not.

Saab / Pirelli woes

· Uncategorized

I hate Saab more than ever.

They just called and said they had mismeasured a few months ago when they found out I could get my tires (2 of them) replaced per this program with Pirelli and pay 46 per tire. They are at 5/32 and 8/32 (back and front) on wear. They need to be 3/32. So I have taken my car there, wasting my time on a number of occasions. What can I do?

So by the time they are worn at 3/32, it’ll probably be past the 15,000 mile mark where they prorate and give you a break on tires, and new tires will cost a fortune.

[H] vs. Infinium Labs Editorial

· Uncategorized

Here is an awesome article about the [H] vs. Infinium Labs lawsuit.

[H]ardOCP is suing Infinium Labs. I think it’s a great story, and I’ve been a fan of Kyle Bennet’s site for a few years now. He’s also a writer/contributor in Computer Power User (CPU) magazine.

Read the article, it’s pretty interesting, and the author has some great ideas about what IL should do.

Crazy hard drive space weirdness

· Uncategorized

I’d love it if someone tried this.

Claims of getting over 100% extra storage of a drive’s capacity with certain drives! I wouldn’t try this on my system, but if someone is bored…give her a shot!
