First golf lessons!

· Uncategorized

Michelle and I had the pleasure of having our first golf lessons of our life on Saturday morning, after our 10 mile run! PHEW! Bob Menzies, one of our first website clients, gave us his promised complimentary lessons! We’re so excited about it, that we’re going to go and get a few more lessons so that Michelle can be a decent player at her outing for work later this month, and I can eventually go and play 9 or 18 holes and not be a complete tool!

Bob was very patient, very thorough, and extremely professional! This guy knows what he’s talking about!

He was awesome. He used his video camera along w/ the NEAT swing analysis system. He drew lines to show us if we were swinging properly, standing properly, and following through properly. He did a split-screen to compare our swing and stance with Tiger Woods, Bob’s opinion of the best golfer in the universe! Again, I was basically flabbergasted at the end of the lesson! He improved our swing incredibly, and that was just with a 1/2 hour lesson, each. He had us use the 7 iron only, too. After our lesson, I whacked a few with a borrowed driver from the shop at Mulligan’s.

I love "English"

In chatting with my friend, Sophie, in the UK, this morning, she said:

“After all this waiting for a photo, you will probably think the car looks rubbish.”

I love that, rubbish. :D

"And maybe you'll get laid"

In an interview with Matt Lauer of NBC’s Today Show. Matt Lauer as the question: “Why do we still have political conventions?” Dennis Miller said that it was so that all the “schleps” who go door to door in places like Iowa have some incentive to do this work. “We’ll get you into a big city, and maybe you’ll get laid.” That rocks!!

Creepy Dentist!!!

This has got to be one of the nastiest things I’ve heard in a while. I’m not even sure what would possess someone to do something like this, other than the power trip.

Comcast's DVR

· Uncategorized

So, I’ve had Comcast’s DVR since Friday. I haven’t used it all that much yet, as it’s usually from the Fall through May that I do a lot of TV watching. Well, I watch HBO Soap Operas, but I am usually home on a Sunday night. It’ll probably get more use to tape a lot of network shows this next season. It’s sweet though, as it records High Definition. Tivo only offers that through one of the High Definition boxes that Direct TV uses. It’s not as pretty as Tivo, but it works. And the tech that installed it told me that next month, they’ll have a two tuner version, so you can tape on one and watch on the other!

Do you know why you get so much spam?

· Uncategorized

Back in the day, when we were freely giving out our email address on all those websites, that eventually, they’d proliferate that address to all the scumbag emailers on earth. I’m blogging this. Seriously, friends. I hear a lot of griping from people that email sucks these days. Sure it does. A solution is to use a new email address for a while, and NOT use the one that you may have been used to from years and years of use. Those years and years of use have probably “dirtied” the address for a while.

Actually, Jesse is using a new address. I wonder if he’ll comment and let us know if it’s worked out for him. There are also solutions like www.mailblocks.com, a system that uses a challenge > response system. If someone emails you, it asks them to verify that they are human, your friend, etc. If it passes, then MailBlocks will send mail your way. If they don’t reply to the validation email from MailBlocks, and they aren’t on your pre-approved list, you won’t get the mail. It’s that simple. There are also email services like Google’s GMail, which is probably getting close to being released to the general public. That probably works very well against spam, if they do mail like they do searching (except for yesterday!).

Flight 327 solved

· Uncategorized

Thanks for sending us this info, Alex!

Annie Jacobsen’s recent piece for WomensWallStreet.Com made waves. Her account of flying with her family while 14 Middle Eastern passengers acted in a threatening and apparently coordinated manner makes for a terrifying read. Her article captures her sickening sense of both uncertainty and inevitability as what might possibly have been the next 9/11 unfolded around her.

Fortunately, nothing of the sort happened. On June 29, Northwest Airlines Flight 327 landed safely in Los Angeles and a phalanx of law enforcement greeted the suspicious passengers, whisking them away for some intense interviews. Jacobsen noted a pile of Syrian passports in the hand of a law-enforcement official.

Getting older...

Sheesh, time files.

Silver Lake Sand Dunes in 1999

I can’t believe this was five years ago. Even then, I wasn’t a little “kid” anymore. And now, five years later, I don’t “feel” any younger. Also, our friend, “Rambo”, was alive back then. Sinan lived around here and we hung out quite a bit. Sheesh. I wonder what other old photos I can look at that will make me sad.

The bright side of things is that I have a long life ahead of me with my best friend, Michelle. We have many things to see and do before we whither and die.
