Google's Desktop Search is not "safe"

· Uncategorized

My friend Yogi sent me this article about the Google desktop search not being very safe. They say you should only install it on a standalone computer. However, in doing so, you’re not getting much value out of this tool, as you’d want to search for your “stuff” that you have on the computer that is in documents, emails, IM chats, etc.

The Incredibles!!!

· Uncategorized

Michelle and I saw The Incredibles last night. What an awesome movie. It was everything I expected it to be. Funny, clever, high-tech (animation and computer graphics), and packed full of action!

If you are at all interested in Pixar movies or superhero movies, this is the perfect balance of both!!! I left the movie feeling extremely entertained and wanting to defeat bad guys. Even Michelle was pretty fired up about the movie!!! We highly recommend it.

Concerned About the Left by David M. Kempisty

The following is a letter written by my friend, David M. Kempisty, to George W. Bush:

Concerned about the Left

Dear Mr. President:

I understand you have so much on your plate. What with the Middle East, Iraq issues, the upcoming election; why even today I say you holding a joint press conference with the Prime Minister of Romania (You handled the Sandy Berger question well). The point being, I understand _ as the leader of the most influential and powerful nation on the planet _ you are an extremely busy man. I do, however, come to you not solely with a problem but also with a solution. If I may, I suggest you incorporate some form of the next paragraph into your next address to the U.S. populace.

“As your President, and the leader of the free world, I have many issues to contend with; Iraq, additional turmoil in the Middle East, the domestic economy, tax reform, etc. etc. The list goes on and on ? And that doesn’t even start to go into the issues associated with this year’s election. But at the same time - looking on my list, I see one item _it’s not the top item _ but one item, which I can hopefully solve rather easily and improve our great country — it concerns driving.” “I’m not sure where the genesis of the problem lies, but I do know the solution: Drivers should use the left hand lane for Passing Only! Use it - Dwight D. created for you but, use it properly. Get out there, pass the slower car, and then merge back to the right. Driving, my fellow American, should be a collective experience. It is not, you alone on the road. You are not an extension of your car. Relax and work together to improve the driving experience for all. Let us take a page from our European partners, the Krauts, and consider the autobahn. It’s a medium to move a large volume of traffic as rapidly and as safely as possible. The United States has an even greater network of roads to coordinate traffic on; however, there is a great difference between the two networks. The European model is both more aggressive and more harmonious at the same time. Is it possible? Can it be? The answer is ‘Yes’. Work together, to move as a collective traffic entity moving from one location to another. Be defensive. Drive aggressively - but safe. Use the left hand land properly. Understand when another vehicle has to merge in front of you for a left hand exit _ they did so not to slight you or your car, not to attack you, but rather because they needed to exit via that left hand exit.”
“My fellow Americans, I have many responsibilities in this position as your President, all with the objective of improving the United States. This isn’t anywhere near my biggest concern or initiative, but all the initiatives don’t have to be big ones to be effective ones. Think about it Americans _ let us not drive like we have our heads up our asses.” “Thank you and Good Night.”

Now surely, some of the speechwriting will have to be polished and I understand if the ending has to be seriously reworked and the Kraut comment removed, but I hope you see the potential here. Incorporated correctly, I think you could both introduce a solution into America and score some light-hearted, free spirited, points with the American people. You don’t have to answer now, Sir _ but just think about it.

Like you, concerned about the Left,

My Hero!!

The current Jeopardy champion is awesome!!! My friend Scott told me about last night’s show. His final wager was a computer geek’s codeword for “elite”. Besides that, there was a videogame category covering games like Unreal Tournament and Everquest!

Here’s the info from a newsgroup posting:

I’d like to find an article about it.

If John Kerry won, I’d have accepted it, and moved on.

I don't understand people!

· Uncategorized

Okay, so I hear people, some of which are my friends, saying shit like: “I’m moving to Canada now!” That’s ridiculous!!!

As if we’re living under a dictatorship, all of a sudden? They should have moved out of the U.S. the minute they disagreed with the President and his cabinet and the decisions our federal government made. I’m appalled when I hear 30 year old friends of mine making these heinous decrees. “I’m moving to Canada!” Get a fucking life. This pisses me off like no other. Support your fucking country or get the fuck out. Period.

So let’s get this straight. You cried and cried and wanted Kerry to win, hating Bush and hating that we’re in Iraq. You wanted lazy people to stay home, get checks, play videogames, and smoke dope. You wanted gays to get married and deflower the sanctity of marriage in this country. You wanted our government to buy people a ticket to laziness and apathy rather than buying cruise missiles (thanks Jon, for this one). Now, Kerry loses and you say, “I’m moving to Canada!” Baloney. You know what, they won’t take you. You’ll have to wait!!!

Leaving comments a problem for you? Read on...

· Uncategorized

Friends, it’s come to my attention, by more than 4 people, that it’s a pain in the ass to leave comments on my site. Well, first off, you sould be using Mozilla Firefox. Secondly, you can do as stated here:

The other issue again has to do with how cookies are handled. By default IE 6 blocks attempts to create cookies from a domain other than the one the browser is currently displaying and TypeKey gets around the earlier problem with cookies by creating them based on where you installed MT. Here at SEB that means the cookies are created by jenkinsonline.net (where I have MT installed) which is obviously different from stupidevilbastard.com and IE 6 don?t like that. If you have your blog setup on a different domain than where you installed MT and it?s set to only allow TypeKey authenticated comments then this means your blog will never recognize that someone has signed in if they?re using IE 6 and they won?t be able to comment. Here on SEB we?re set to allow both types of comments so things still work even with cookie blocking, but the sign in acts like it didn?t work and the wrong form displays. If you click on the little evil eye at the bottom of the browser and tell IE 6 to allow cookies from jenkinsonline.net then suddenly you?ll find the TypeKey login on our comments pages is working like it should and the proper form is displayed after login. If you use IE 6 here you can try this for yourself and see how it works. This is a problem that SA will likely work hard to resolve as it?ll be an endless source of headaches for them. Telling your visitors they have to change the configuration for blocking cookies isn?t going to go over well.

By comparison, using FireFox with the current solution is a dream come true. Not only does it not have a problem with the redirect to an insecure page or with cookies from a domain other than the one displayed, but when you get to the TypeKey login form it automatically puts in the user ID and password you last used on it allowing you to just hit enter and return to the comment form. Just one more reason to give up on IE in my mind.

As the Stupid Evil Bastard says, double click the little red eye in the bottom right of the Internet Explorer 6 window. Right click the blocked site (should be mine) and allow cookies for this site. Now, you’ll be able to log into TypeKey to leave comments. So, let’s thank the Stupid Evil Bastard, and Google, of course, for this wonderful information.

We must remember to be very quiet while visiting Arlington National Cemetery!

In no way do I mean for this to be disrespectful! Michelle and I thought that Arlington National Cemetery was absolutely beautiful. We visited with the utmost respect and kept our voices down, praying for the souls that have been laid to rest there.

While in D.C., I noticed this guy had upgraded his place to a 2 bedroom apartment!! Looked kind of hard to deal with, though!
