Fun Joke

· Uncategorized

This is from my friend Yogi:

A man has six children and is very proud of his achievement. He
is so proud of himself, that he starts calling his wife," Mother of
Six" in spite of her objections.

One night, they go to a party. The man decides that it’s time to go
home and wants to find out if his wife is ready to leave as well.
He shouts at the top of his voice, “Shall we go home ‘Mother of six?”

His wife, irritated by her husband’s lack of discretion shouts
right back, “Anytime you’re ready, Father of Four.”

World of Warcraft

This game rocks.

Even Gamespot says so: "Such high quality simply cannot be expected, nor should it be missed."

I am addicted to this game. I could be addicted to much worse things, right? This keeps me home, saves me money, so to speak.

My Christmas Wish List

· Uncategorized

  1. ZBoard – it’s a keyboard that helps me play videogames more efficiently. Do you want to contribute to my videogame delinquency? That’s up to you. If you act before January 9th, you get a free World of Warcraft (my favorite game and obsession) keyset. This keyboard is interchangable with keysets for popular games, sold separately. According to the link, if you buy the keyboard at a retail store like EB Games, Best Buy, Micro Center, etc., you get the World of Warcraft keyset for free.

  2. NewEgg.com gift certificates – my favorite merchant, bar none. This way, I can buy whatever I want for myself when I get around to incrementally upgrading my PC at home. This place sells all sorts of things I like to buy like processors, memory, video cards, hard drives, computer cases, etc.

  3. Clothes from Banana Republic or Polo – I wear 34 waist, 30 length pants. I wear large shirts. My wife has a good idea of what she may want to dress me in. :).

  4. I’d love to have a sport coat. I’ve never owned one of these things. I wouldn’t even know what to wear it with, but I’d give it a shot.

  5. Robosapien from Sharper Image or ThinkGeek.com. A gift certificate at either of these merchants would work, too.

  6. RokuLabs HD1000, as mentioned in an earlier blog entry. This is the first High Definition capable media player. I’d be able to show off pictures that we keep stored on the computer in the living room. No more having to shuffle people into a small room to do such a thing, and the big screen TV that we’ll get one day will work BRILLIANTLY with this!!!

  7. Harmony Remote 688 – I could use an upgrade to the remote I have now. You could probably get this remote much cheaper at an online retailer.

  8. Gift certificates to any major merchant or restaurant – why burden yourself with buying me anything you aren’t sure about? Just get me a gift certificate instead. Also, with Michelle being pregnant (yippee!!!), we’ll probably be dining out more than normal, so some gift certificates to restaurants would be nice. We like Camp Ticonderoga on Rochester Road, as well as any other restaurant in our area!

This will be updated, and “bumped” every few days, to keep it fresh. :)

NOTE: My birthday is on January 23rd, so in case someone wanted to be real kind, they could keep this in mind. Also, if I got nothing but newegg.com gift certificates, I’d be thrilled.

I want one of these!!!

Roku Labs HD1000

This is awesome. It’s the first high-definition ready media player. Looks nice. The only thing I don’t like is that it doesn’t have digital audio pass-through. It has component video pass-through, so that I could pass my DVD player through it, but it only has analog audio pass through. That sucks. I’d still have to switch the stereo mode when doing this, but who cares, I guess.

HUMMER Firebomber Gets Five Years

HUMMER Firebomber Could Get Five Years

A 24-year-old doctoral candidate at the California Institute of Technology could be headed to prison for five years or more, after being convicted on Friday of firebombing vehicles at a HUMMER dealership on Aug. 22, 2003. William Cottrell, a physics student at CalTech, was found guilty of seven counts of arson and one count of conspiracy, the Los Angeles Times reported. Cottrell testified during his trial that SUV dealers were “evil,” the paper says. Cottrell’s two accomplices, Tyler Johnson, a Caltech graduate, and his girlfriend, Michie Oe, have not been indicted and are believed to have fled the U.S. On the night of the incident, four SUV dealers across southern California were targeted and vandalized, with about $5 million in damage being claimed and 125 vehicles lost to the terrorist acts. Cottrell’s lawyers are already planning on asking for a new trial, based on their claim that the convicted man suffers from a form of autism called Asperger’s syndrome, which is characterized often by high functioning in school situations but stunted social capability.

8 in 10 Greeks own mobile phones!!!

· Uncategorized

This is a neat little story that came onto my radar. It was actually under the top 5 Reuters Technology stories on My Yahoo’s front page I have set up.

ATHENS (Reuters) - With 76 percent of Greek households owning mobile phones, interest for third-generation services is rising, the country’s statistics service (NSS) said on Monday based on the findings of a recent survey.

NSS, which surveyed a sample of 4,970 people aged 16 to 74 in the first quarter, found that compared to 2003 usage of mobile phones with wireless internet access was up six percent.

I’ve been to Europe a handful of times over the past few years, and I’ve never seen more mobile phones per person (on average) in my whole life. Now, 2 years since the last time I went, I’d imagine it’s even more than it was in 2002!

No banned substances taken by her, right?

This is the famous Greek sprinter, Katerina Thanou. She’s the one, who together with Kostas Kenteris dodged drug tests before the Athens 2004 Olympics this August.

Yeah, right. Look at this girl. You trying to tell me she’s all natural? “Oh, she works out, heavy!!!”

St. Gertrude Day by Dave Kempisty

· Uncategorized

It?s the 15th of November. That means it is Saint Gertrude Day. I try to read from the Pictorial Lives of the Saints book each day. I find it puts me in a good frame of mind. I then try to follow up with a passage/chapter from the Bible. I am not on Daniel. Shadrach, Meshiac and Ibidnigo and the fiery furnace. What I find funny is the distinction of patron saint for the Day; again, Saint Gertrude for today?s date. Now, say one was of such piety, do they consider the patron saint of the day as they near expiration on earth.

?Looking at the upcoming week ? it?s a tough one , St. Peter, St. Gertrude, St. Michael, St. Theresa, and St. Patrick. I can?t break into that crowd. Well, maybe could compete with St. Gertrude ? but that?s it! If I don?t expire on Tuesday, I will have to hold out for a bit!?

Certainly a tough club to join. But I guess at that point of the game, intervention is going to step in where needed anyway.

The Magic Bullet by Dave Kempisty

· Uncategorized

Have I recorded my adventure with regards to the Bullet? Its actually called the Magic Bullet. What a trip! I gain much more satisfaction out of the fact that the machine fails to perform as advertised as I do out of the fact that it produces a small portion of the things promised. You see the commercial again and again. It slices - It dices - It’s the Magic Bullet… it’s the ultimate party machine. I call the number to order such a contraption and find the 99 dollar price is actually 120 because of the shipping and handling. Ofcourse I think, The shipping and handling are of such a price that this superb, well-machined, piece of work will be a weighty piece of quality work. So, So bunk! The item can do almost nothing within the ten seconds that it claims to do EVERYTHING in. Coffee beans: 1 minute. Smoothies: 1min 20seconds - and the banana still survives! Cheese and jalapenos: 55 seconds. Wow. Nothing more than 10 seconds, huh. The second time I used the equipment, the bullet’s gasket came off and caused problems for me. It was wrapped about the blades. Note: the motor isn’t strong enough to cut thru the gasket!. The third time: leaking … out the side! And then the demo … With the great pleasure I was receiving from my purchase, I had to share the experience. Ahn was over for a study session and when the time was right, I brought up the Magic Bullet and its claimed capabilities: The little motor that could. Salsa was the objective. The Bullet went and went - its poor engine taxed - producing this plume of ozone in my kitchen. Onward I pulsed. Onward - one of the 6 criteria pollutants monitored by the EPA was being produced in my kitchen…. And onward the, apparently too large tomato, survived, unscathed by the Bullet blades. And then there’s clean-up. Can it get better? So you pop this cheese/jalapeno into the microwave - zap - and pour. Problem is; your melted cheese sorbs to the side of the plastic container. But the containers are certainly too narrow to get your hands into and clean out the melted whey product. In the end I had to resort to the ‘sponge / fork-extension’ methodology to remove said sorbed product. Awesome!
