Hump Day

· Uncategorized

Just pluggin’ away. Been busy at work lately, busier than normal, but it’s a good thing. I haven’t had much time to drift and blog stuff.

12 weeks to go for our baby! I can’t wait for that, either!!!

I almost forgot!!!

· Uncategorized

Today marks my dad’s 10 year anniversary of receiving his new heart! With what happened today in Greece (my uncle passing), I almost overlooked this feat of science, nature, and the heavens. I feel horrible for not congratulating my mom and dad for this remarkable accomplishment! My dad is 72 years old. He received a 25ish year old hear 10 years ago.

We were all much different 10 years ago. I was only halfway through school (Bachelor’s), went to California for Spring Break with my friend, Sean, regardless of my dad’s surgery. My parents told me I should go. I didn’t even think it was a big deal then. Looking back, I should have stayed home. We live and we learn. Now, I’m blessed to be here with my dad. Sharing in the joys of life, marriage, and soon, fatherhood. My dad will get to be a grandpa. He’s waited all these years. I can’t wait to give him that.

Please, friends, educate yourselves on organ and tissue donation.

My Uncle John Passed Away Today

· Uncategorized

Today is a very sad day. My Uncle John, in Greece, passed away today.

He’s in the middle of this picture. This look he has on his face is the epitome of his demeanor. Always relaxed. Always happy. He was a very caring man. God Bless him and his entire family.

Last Summer, his daughter, Georgia (Gogoula) passed away from an aneurism.

Something fun. 100 Top Gadgets from Gizmodo

Top 100 Gadgets of all Time

Some of these caught my eye. Thanks, Gizmodo.

  1. MATTEL INTELLIVISION, 1980
Intellivision had better graphics than the Atari 2600, but not nearly as many games. Its keypad interface was just too sophisticated for its time, like the three-button mouse.

  2. POPEIL POCKET FISHERMAN, 1950s
This fishing rod (which is still manufactured today) folds up to a remarkable 9 inches long, thus freeing the world from the tyranny of poles. This was the first invention of the Popeil family; Ron Popeil would later go on to found the infamous Ronco company, which sold other innovations such as the Veg-O-Matic, the Smokeless Ashtray, and the Inside-the-Shell Egg Scramber (#84).

  3. MATTEL FOOTBALL II, 1978
Mattel’s first handheld football game was good; this sequel was a classic. Finally, you could throw passes to your little LED teammates, while enjoying the shrill electronic cry of “Charge!”

  4. FUZZBUSTER, 1968
Smokie never had it so bad. After getting what he thought was an unwarranted speeding ticket, Dale Smith of Dayton, Ohio, whipped up a box that detected the radar signals cops used to clock drivers. The Fuzzbuster was a sensation, especially after the federally mandated 55 mph speed limit went into effect in 1974, providing protection to lead foots everywhere.

  5. NINTENDO GAME BOY, 1989
Bundling inventor Gunpei Yokoi’s Game Boy with the highly addictive Tetris ensured Game Boy’s success in the early ’90s. Selling over 32 million consoles in its first three years, the Game Boy has had a slew of offspring, but none will ever compare to the original.

  6. APPLE IPOD, 2001
It wasn’t the first hard-drive audio player, it was expensive, and it worked only with Macintosh computers. But the original iPod cracked the portable audio market wide open with its ease of use and to-die-for aesthetics. Some estimates peg Apple as now claiming an astounding 92 percent of the mobile audio market.

  7. TIVO SERIES1, 1999
Like FedEx, Velcro, and Google, TiVo has joined that rare echelon of companies with names that have become synonymous with their industry. Today, we “tivo” instead of “tape,” and 2 million TiVo enthusiasts have forgotten what TV commercials look like. Early TiVo units – manufactured by Philips, Sony, and others – were exorbitantly expensive (10 hours of recording cost $500), but competition with fellow upstart ReplayTV has steadily driven prices down. Now imagine what the world might be like had the product gone with its original name: “Teleworld.”

Hers and His Diaries

· Uncategorized

I got this from Scott, who got it from his ExplorerX website he frequents.

HER DIARY

“Tonight I thought he was acting weird. We had made plans to meet at a bar to have a drink. I was shopping with my friends all day long, so I thought he was upset at the fact that I was a bit late, but he made no comment. Conversation wasn’t flowing so I suggested that we go somewhere quiet so we could talk. He agreed but he kept quiet and absent. I asked him what was wrong; he said nothing. I asked him if it was my fault that he was upset. He said it had nothing to do with me and not to worry. On the way home I told him that I loved him, he simply smiled and kept driving. I can’t explain his behavior; I don’t know why he didn’t say I love you too. When we got home I felt as if I had lost him, as if he wanted nothing to do with me anymore. He just sat there and watched T.V. He seemed distant and absent. Finally, I decided to go to bed. About 10 minutes later he came to bed, and to my surprise he responded to my caress and we made love, but I still felt that he was distracted and his thoughts were somewhere else. He fell asleep - I cried. I don’t know what to do. I’m almost sure that his thoughts are with someone else. My life is a disaster.”

HIS DIARY

“Today the Steelers lost, but at least I got laid.”

My back hurts!!!

Happy Wednesday! I felt my back “tweak” a little bit today while doing curls. That sucks when that happens. I feel it now, just sitting here.

GOOG's profits soar!!!

· Uncategorized

I can’t believe this company.

Things are good for Google. The company’s much anticipated financial report shows a dramatic increase in income, largely from its gangbusters advertising plan. Their fourth quarter report turned in a net profit of US$204 million which translates to 71 cents per share, for the the last three months of 2004. The year previous, Google saw a net profit of $27.3 million, or roughly 10 cents a share.

Google’s getting good at making money, too. These latest results are on $1 billion in gross revenue, while the previous results where roughly half that, at $512 million. Double your gross, octuple your net? Translation: bling, bling. Indeed, a one time compensation charge got in the way of an astounding 92 cents/share. After hours trading has seen the stock grow from its already impressive $193 share price to near $210 per share.

I just haven’t been blogging that much lately. At least I feel this way. I’m not sure why. I feel like I have a hectic winter. I have two classes, one on Wednesday nights and one on Saturday mornings. The Wednesday night class will shift over to an online course for about 6 weeks or so. That’ll make my weenights free and clear since I’ve switched to going to the gym in the morning.

I want a Treo 650. I have problems. I wish they were cheap. They aren’t. They are like $420, via Sprint’s site. Maybe I can try and find someone that would be able to get me one for a “deal”. I’d want to sell my phone and my Axim X3i if I were going to make a switch like this, naturally.

UPDATE: That price is if you sign up for a new account. I hate that.
