The Three of Us

· Uncategorized

We went to Dan and April’s this afternoon for a dual birthday party for their two children, Audrey and Joshua. We celebrated Audrey’s 4th Birthday and Joshua’s 1st Birthday.

Here is a picture of the little Filias family:

Here is the same situation, but with Michelle and I getting some needed rest:

Shortly after this little “rest” we took:

Of course, here are the birthday kids Audrey and Joshua:

Top 50 Most Shoplifted Items

· Uncategorized

I heard a bit about this on 89X this morning and thought it was interesting to find out that many of the items that are sought after by shoplifters are ingredients to crystal meth. Nasty, dirty, repulsive. But, if you’re hooked to either the drug or the money-making aspect of it, you’ll go to the limits to feed that addiction.

Here are the top 10, which I found on BoingBoing.net.

1 Advil tablet 50 ct

2 Advil tablet 100 ct

3 Aleve caplet 100 ct

4 EPT Pregnancy Test single

#5 Gillette Sensor 10 ct – one of those ridiculously overpriced items out there that is also small and easy to “grip”. These deserve to get stolen!

6 Kodak 200 24 exp

7 Similac w/iron powder - case

8 Similac w/iron powder - single can

9 Preparation H 12 ct

10 Primatene tablet 24 ct

Coca-Cola Zero

· Uncategorized

I’ve had the privilege to enjoy some Coca-Cola Zero a few times over the last few days. I was a bit confused as to why Coca-Cola had two diet beverages that contained aspartame. It appears this Coca-Cola Zero product IS supposed to taste like regulare Coca-Cola but contain 0 calories!

World of Warcraft

· Uncategorized

It seems that with Summer in the air and the birth of my son, Benjamin, World of Warcraft is the last thing I want to do with my computer. I’d rather play Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas or mess with photos and videos.

Testing Technorati Tags

· Uncategorized

I have been seeing this Technorati stuff all over the web lately. First, I noticed it on The Snowsuit Effort the other day, then I noticed it on some WordPress plugin sites. I then noticed it on some other sites over the last day or so… it’s like in the last 4 days, I’ve seen this Technorati thing and then see it every single day now.

Some good ones from Waldo

· Uncategorized

Thanks, Waldo, for these good ones:

Heather sees a daytime talk show where they’re discussing remarriage after a spouse passes away. She asked Chris later that night in bed if she died would he remarried. Chris replies, “Well after a considerable period of grieving and maybe even therapy…we all need companionship. So I guess I would.”

Spurred on by Chris’s response, Heather then asks, “If I died and you’re married, would you let the women live in this house and sleep in our bed?” Chris says. “We’ve spent a lot of money getting this house just the way we want it. It seems like a waste to give it all up, so yes, I guess I would. Plus this bed is brand new. We just paid $2000 for it, you wouldn’t want me to just throw it away, would you?”

Looking noticeably flustered, Heather finally asks, would you let her use my golf clubs?" “Oh no - she’s left handed.”

That’s great.

My yiayia passed away at midnight!

· Uncategorized

My yiayia (grandma), Eugenia, passed away at roughtly 12:00AM EST. She was nearly 89 and a half years old. She had a long and adventurous life, as she came here in the early 80s to help my mom and dad raise us. During her time here, she even got to visit Las Vegas with my aunt Sophie and Uncle Markos. My mom and dad haven’t even been to Las Vegas!!

This is a picture of my yiayia from 2002, when Michelle and I took our 2nd trip to Greece together that summer. Yiayia was already starting to be hit with harder symptoms of Parkinson’s Disease, but she was still lucid most of the time, but her legs didn’t hold her up as good as they used to.

Earlier this year, my mom and dad got to see my yiayia when they went to Greece for my uncle John Filias’ funeral. I’m glad my mom was able to see her mom and say goodbye to her. My mom is both happy and sad that her mother has passed. I’m also happy for my aunt Koko, in Greece, as she was taking care of my yiayia for many years and as my yiayia’s health kept slipping, it became exponentially more difficult to care for her.

I’ll never forget things about my yiayia:

  • She watched Dallas and Falcon Crest with us in the 80s.
  • She thought you’d get drunk if you drank too much Pepsi.
  • She could communicate with my friends enough to tell them we were in the bathroom if we, indeed, were, when they came to the door.
  • She called strawberries, “strawbell”.
  • She called peanut butter and jelly, “pina jello”.
  • She didn’t like when I called her grandma, and would say, “Oxi (no), yiayia!”

As a toddler, she potty-trained me. I don’t remember this, directly, but it’s been told to me and I hold this very dear to my heart. She also bought me a gold cross and necklace with my aunt when I went to Greece, alone, in the summer of 1988. I still have this cross and necklace. I’ll never get rid of it.

This is one of my favorite pictures of my yiayia. Even in her declining health, she was always a damn good time and had an excellent sense of humor. Here, she raised her glass of her brother’s wine, very dry, and enjoyed the company of Michelle and I.

I’ll miss my yiayia!

Game Seven!!!

The Pistons force a game 7!!!! They beat the Spurs, 95 to 86. I have to admit that I had a moment or two to play some Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas. I feel bad, but not really. I knew they’d win!

First Day of Summer

· Uncategorized

Happy Summer 2005!!!! Weather’s been a little bit weird here this late Spring. It was really cool for a few weeks, then we got blasted with five or six 90 degree days in a row. It was super muggy, too. Then it cooled off a little bit last week with highs in the high 60s to low 70s. It’s heating back up again with temps in the 80s this week and getting to 92 and thunderstorms on Friday.

I hope the weather is nice on Saturday so that we can go to and enjoy the Opa! Fest! at St. Nick’s in Troy.

My First Father's Day Celebration(s)

· Uncategorized

We had a very enjoyable Father’s Day with our two families yesterdy. First, we had a brunch at Cherry Creek Golf Club in Shelby Township.

Michelle’s whole family was there: Diana, Thomas, Kimberly, Matthew, and Louis. We had a very enjoyable time, exchanged stories, and had some very good food.

Before I left Cherry Creek, I wanted to offer Ben up to the Gods.

Later in the day, we went to my mom and dad’s house for a barbeque with my entire family, sans Kyle (Gina’s boyfriend). Lela, Athanasios, Dino, Danielle, Gina, Michelle, myself, and Benjamin!

Happy Father's Day!

· Uncategorized

To me and all my friends out there who are blessed as fathers. Y’all know who you is.

I was surprised to find Al Roker’s book, Big Shoes – In Celebration of Dads and Fatherhood, on my computer desk this morning. I was hoping Michelle or someone would get me this book for my first Father’s Day.

Thank you, Michelle, for giving me the best gift a man could ask for, a child. I love you.

I don’t care how gay this little towel looks on Ben. He’s just a little baby boy and he’s so damn tender…
